still slow river

canoeing is one of my favorite summer things to do.
with all of the hustle and bustle tagging along with this time of year...it's nice to find a quiet place to float slow and breathe easy for a bit...a touch of still peacefulness.
(and that's without me steering. we would be all flailing about and overboard if i were in charge of that)
so yesterday we packed up the family, threw some cherries in the bag, and did a quick trip down the river before getting back to work.

i take back the peace and quiet part.
we made up river people songs and laughed so loud it echoed most of the trip.
but you can do those sorts of things when you're all alone on a river...

have a  happy weekend, everyone!

and just a little thank you note: i want to let all of you know how encouraged i've been by your kindest words on my photography. i love taking pictures, but it's way more instinctual than technical for me. sometimes that fact holds me back from even calling myself a "photographer". so thank you from the bottom of my heart!
i'll work on putting a "camera bag" tab up with all sorts of information on the cameras i use and post editing i dabble with.
most of these pictures were taken with my canon 60D//50 mm lens.
the ones on the water i used my little fujifilm finepix f300exr point and shoot.
who's bored already...haha

  5. Aw, I wish we could go canoeing here... alas, I live in a part of the UK where we'd only be able to canoe on a reservoir!

  7. what an adorable little family :) all 3 of you seem so at peace and so happy. it's sweet to see.

also, i'm curious: how do matt's dreads work? i see dreads all over and love them, but i genuinely don't understand the technical aspect of them. you roll them with wax, but then what? just leave them until they grow out? do you ever get to wash them? they look so cool. i'm envious :)

  9. Katie,

This looks like so much fun! I love how you always manage to infuse your adorable style into everything- even canoeing! A parasol?! I love it.

I'm also so happy you are going to be sharing your camera bag. Can't wait.

    Happy weekend, love!

  12. I was trying to think of a way to describe how your photos make me feel. They're all just so perfectly sensational! If someone had never experienced summertime, and the happiness it brings, your photos would be a perfect way to enlighten them. If that makes any sense at all!

  13. So cute, I love how you always find beautiful pops of color to share! The video was so sweet too! I spent a very long time hesitant to ever call myself a photographer (it seemed so out of context & an inappropriate way to describe myself). I'm learning that technicalities of equipment are really trivial when it comes to whether someone has an eye to capture a moment or tell a story through images. You clearly know how to do that. I love your photographs!

  14. I definitely wouldn't have the guts to carry a parasol. Not sure why, exactly. They're beautiful and perfect for almost any occasion (except rain). It fits you. You have the beauty and confidence to carry it off perfectly.
