dear baby: modern family

dear baby,

i want to talk about my dad! i have a different dad than you do. he's a good guy because he helps other people a lot. he skateboards with me! i get to see my dad on wednesdays and some weekends. i love when i get to see him.

our family is different because they live in different places. one lives in another place and one lives in another. i have two houses....two bedrooms. sometimes it's difficult because we don't get to do a whole lot together, but i like having two dads. it feels awesome. they do lots of stuff with me.

they work together to be good to me. our family is good because they all are friends. i think you'll love them.

p.s. today my lunch fell on the floor at school. it was really embarrassing. grapes and crackers everywhere. baby, never never hold your lunch by the lid when its loose. you've been warned.

love,
max

  4. so sweet how he thinks of it like that. my parents split when i was going into 7th grade, so i always wondered what younger kids thought about it all. i'm glad he thinks the baby will love you all :)

  5. This is really sweet, Max! It sounds like you are very lucky guy to have 2 dads that love you so much! I grew up seeing my dad on weekends, too, and now as an adult, I still look forward to my visits with him! You're going to be a wonderful big brother.

  13. Max is so sweet! As long as there is love that is all that matters.

I remember when I was in elementary school and I had a banana packed. The lunch aid called me a lil monkey(i know she was trying to be cute now) but then I was so mortified I never brought another one to school again....

Thank you for sharing your sweet letters!

  14. So beautiful to see his perspective. It's not always easy for kids to have two dads, so it's great to see that Max has two great ones who make sure he knows he is number one!

  15. I think it's amazing that Max is so well adjusted to his modern family. It doesn't matter what kind of family you have, where they live, or how many members are in it, as long as there is LOVE! I have a modern family too :)

  16. Ohh man, Youve got one smart kiddo on your hands! My sister and I have separate fathers and growing up with two dads was and is seriously the best! Both dads have always treated my sister and I as their equal child. Also having a wonderful matriarch mama does help keep the ties tight. Your boy is so sweet to recognize the extra love in a big family!

  17. Oh my goodness! I have just found your blog and that little letter was so sweet that without knowing anything more about your family I am truly touched. Scrolling down it looks like you have an amazing home as well so I'm looking forward to digging in and learning more.
