stacking fruit and counting days

yesterday was sunshine and snow and a date with myself to the farmer's market to smell lemons and buy up all sorts of local goodies. these small dates with myself started out as necessity to pass the time while max was away with his dad...and they've become something i cherish. small gifts i didn't know i needed...
it hit me yesterday that this season in my life is nearly over...and that i already had a little side kick with me, enjoying the walking and the fresh air and fruit.
it's a lucky thing...counting months and seeing an end...being forced to give old habits and rituals a slow and happy goodbye.
i'm sure i'll always need to sneak out for some time alone every once and a while...but in the meantime i'm just glad that baby already seems to like blood oranges and people watching as much as i do.

lets red, white, and blue this

morning breakfast dates at the market with my guy.
the happiest fresh raspberries you'll ever meet.
peach gelato...two shovel spoons.
so far this weekend is a keeper.

new songs for old friends

a real dapper fella from my past was in town from chicago this week.
jason lived down the street from us growing up and was friends with my sister robyn. he was the very first person i had ever seen dye their hair black, and i thought he had to be the coolest/edgiest person i'd ever laid eyes on.
not much has changed, aside from the hair color. jason is a handbag designer, contributor for apartment therapy, avid bow tie wearer, the sweetest spirit you'll ever meet, and still just as cool as i remembered him to be.

we all went out for lunch at the 2nd street market to catch up and tell funny stories over spring rolls and lemonade. then we sealed our new found friendship with whoopie pies.
between this and reconnecting with these gals, i'm sitting here amazed at how time can pass and memories can be few and faded...but that our souls are all laced up by the same small stretch of road that tethers us back together again.
and that's something to celebrate...

to market

i took myself out saturday afternoon after abandoning the plan of cleaning out the basement.
it was just too good out!
but not good enough for a flouncy loosey goosey spring dress...which was sent over my head a time or two because of the crazy wind.
(my apologies to anyone subjected to my mom butt)

i ended up at the market, which has some pretty wonderful locally made/grown goods, and scooped up gobs of roses, jam, soap, and some maple candies.
if you find yourself in dayton on a saturday afternoon, this is the place to be.
and you might just spy me in the parking lot, covering my exposed backside with a bundle of roses.
