checking in...

how is it thursday and april already? good grief.
i got struck with a terrible case of a stomach bug monday and have been trying to pull out of it ever since. poor matt came home just in time from his trip to hold my hair back and make runs for ice chips and popsicles.
both of my boys have been life savers!

i managed to get out yesterday to try and be a regular mama...baseball practice for bub and easter bunny shopping..but today has me back in my pajamas...sipping good tea and rocking a bit.

here's hoping everyone is having a fine week...and happy happy april!
i've got my fingers crossed i'll be on the up and up for this easter weekend...baby has her sights set on good holiday food and a little bit of chocolate.

warm the house

ugh. i'm a little under the weather. but i love how these new chilly nights make an evening stuck at home sound like the finest idea in the world!
warm blankets, emergen-c in a wine glass, good books and netflix, double socks.

not too shabby. let's see how long i can milk this...

goodnight, loves!

love and ginger ale and other such randoms

thank you all so much for sending good healthy thoughts our way! me and max can't seem to shake whatever it is we've got...but fingers crossed!
with all our queasy stomachs and another rainy afternoon it seemed like a ginger ale kind of day today.
i've been hoarding the ingredients and a old glass bottle to make some just for this kind of occasion.
i used this recipe (the tutorial pictures are really something!)and it turned out just right.
and who knew there would be something so satisfying about peeling a ginger root?
maybe it's totally predictable, but this ginger loves her some ginger ale!

p.s. you all know that i'm helplessly head over heels for my matt...and here's a snippet of why...
he asks me out to 3 a.m cereal dates in our bed.
we watch golden girls and doogie howser
and at the end of the doogie episode, where he's writing in his personal journal....matt tells me, in all seriousness, that i write just like doogie howser, m.d.

i told him that that was the best compliment anyone has ever given me.

let's raise our ginger ale to that!

he forces us to pose and tells us to give him "something to work with" while he snaps away )

free me all in the way that you smile

max and i are under the weather today.
which is highly inconvenient expect that it's rainy and cold and there is nothing better to do than lay in bed and read anyhow.
this crummy weather makes me ache already for last week's sun-burnt shoulders. it's amazing to me how suddenly things can shift around here.
ohio is funny like that.
(although my sister amy is convinced that the roller skating rink made us all sick...she had a premonition of it while we waited in line with our skate tickets..."the air feels dirty in here...we're all going to get sick"
haha.)
so today is a day for making comfort food like lemon scones and chamomile tea...getting tucked in for an afternoon nap by your guy and snuggling up to a sleepy sick son.
it's also for accidentally dumping said tea allover myself and my bed and falling asleep in it anyway.
oh dear.
but then this happened and i'm suddenly starting to perk up...

happy tuesday, friends!

busted

from easter egging to the e.r....such has been our week.
i got the call from max's school this afternoon that all parents dread...our guy was show-boating it to third base during kick ball and busted open his little chin and needed stitches.
this was the first time max has ever been in a emergency situation so i got all frazzled and mother henny and came bursting into the school, only to find him chilling in the nurse's office surrounded by doting lady teachers. not a tear to be found.
he's a brave boy.
but then we got out to the car and he turned into a tiny puddle in my lap. and my heart burst knowing he needs no brave face with his mama. he was real and true and little bit scared.

but boy oh boy did he do so well!
and his dad and matt got to be there to root him on....distracting him with their funny stitches stories and huge gas station icees.
after a few hours, we were out of there.
and max left with 5 stitches and a brand new sense of self!
plus a funny stitches story of his own...

fuzzy head pillow maker

is anyone else way more productive when they're sick?
it's the oddest thing...the minute my nose stuffs up i start sewing pillows.
who knows...
i made this little burlap and painted swiss cross pillow for buddy's room during the peak of my fuzzy-headedness. and now i can't stop painting random symbols on burlap.
i'm sure it's just a phase. haha

p.s. this is a poster from the vintage baseball game we went to last year. i have it hanging up in max's room.
i found an extra one in my basement this week if anyone would like it!
email me and i'll send it your way.

*edit: the poster has found a brand new home!

have a happy weekend!

slowing down

and just like that....
we're all sick and fevered and stuffy nosed. that quickly!
it looks like i shaved my legs for nothing.
being stuck inside on a sunny day makes a girl do odd things...like take pictures of kleenex boxes and get invested in the bonanza marathon on tv.
however odd, i'm taking solace in small comforts today i guess.
(and a actual box of tissues as opposed to a roll of toilet paper is a true luxury around here)

it's the little things today...like the way an open window breeze does something to the soul but wreaks havoc on a cold.
how max is such a brave boy and doesn't even scrunch up his nose while taking his herbs.
(i wish i could say the same for myself)
the way the sun manages to make everything seem just that much better.
and really being sick on a beautiful day isn't so terrible.
you're forced to slow down and fully appreciate the small bits. and you're completely present when the sun sneaks in and sits with you for a while...rooting you on.

happy weekend, friends!
go out and do something wonderful for me!
max and i have a dreamsicle and bed calling our names...
