modcloth blogger of the moment

when modcloth emailed me asking if i would be interested in being their "blogger of the moment" i squealed out loud! then max squealed with me...even though he wasn't sure why we were doing it in the first place. he's supportive like that...
modcloth is one of my favorite places to find deals and gather inspiration and yearn after shoes...so this was a wonderful surprise!

to celebrate, modcloth named a dress after our space here!
they sent me one and it fits me and baby perfectly.

katie's pencil box dress can be found here...i paired mine with a jason wu for target cardigan and orange tights. the bigger i'm getting the harder it is to find things that are comfortable and up my alley...this dress and a few others they have are a dream for pregnant gals!
a million and million thank you's to turi and everyone at modcloth!
to read my interview and get a little peek at my closet...look through my favorite modcloth items...and see how else i would style the pencil box dress go to modcloth's blog!

happy wednesday, friends!
now it's time to take this dress out for our wednesday night date night...

5 favorites of fall: layers

chilly weather layers of scarves and blazers and sweaters and tights are my most favorite!
i look forward to fall-time clothes more than any other season...so many beautiful warm colors and textures. the thrift store is the best place to find great old jackets and woolens. if you're petite-framed (read:short) and small chested like me, boys jackets fit amazingly! some of my favorite fall blazers or jackets are from the boys section!
p.s. my tights are 2 layered, a yellow pair and a white chevron fishnet pair, both from american apparel.

p.p.s. i've been loving your halloween costumes stories! you all are a real hoot!

happy wednesday, loves!

p.s. last day to get your name thrown in the ring to win that beautiful feather necklace from shabby apple!
the winner will be chosen tomorrow!

a little bit gentle

i tried out these crazy (for me) booties today in the sleet and rain...and it turns out we're a pretty fine pair!
like the odd couple...or...a little bit country/a little bit rock n roll...a little bit gentle/a little bit running wild?
i threw them on with a vintage blouse and pencil skirt and some red lips. they make me feel taller in every sense of the word and cause me drive and brake like a maniac.
i've decided to give myself a stage name while wearing them...something snappy and feisty for my budding alter ego....and am currently taking suggestions.

p.s. on a mama's note: i've been in a power struggle with my little man for a few months now. today, max told me that he knows better than i do. that he appreciates me trying but that he really only needs to listen to himself. ack! either these booties have caused him to lose total respect for me and my judgement or i've got a teenager on my hands.
good grief!
max needs an alter-ego name too while we're at it.

rain on my parade

nonstop rain, no sun, and a chance of snow tomorrow can make a girl question her sweet side.
which explains why i spontaneously bought these studded wedge booties today.
but finding them brand new for $20, as opposed to $200, makes me all giddy again.

i'm going to stomp around in the snow tomorrow in these puppies without a care in the world.

a day in our life

up at 7:30 (woken up by a little boy who wore winter gloves in bed all night)
shower and mama/max time before breakfast.
max's hamster is named spongey.
he puts up with a lot from us...from my high-pitched squeels at him to max's constant forcing him under his shirt. this morning we put him on a globe and sang "on top of the world" and he didn't seem very amused.

9:30 and time for breakfast.
i made toast and egg white/red pepper/spinach/goat cheese omelets.
i ruined the first one, so i had mine scrambled.
matt is up by 10 and ready to leave for the day.
i almost burn the house down and decide to stay out of the kitchen and go out for lunch today.

while trying to get dressed i realize i hadn't heard matt leave.
he sneaked back into bed.
he's sleepy like that...
by 10:30 matt has hit the road...it's time to check emails and procrastinate before getting ready.
today i wore a lux blouse, zac posen for target dress i converted into a skirt (it fit terribly on this small chested gal) and a f21 jacket.
max gets himself dressed and insists on helping me with my make up.
then he draws me this owl picture...
(i'm offically in love with him)
and by 11 o'clock we're out the door...
to spend some time at big boy talking serious 6 year old business over chocolate milk and french fries before afternoon kindergarten.
max starts school at 12:30.
hugs and kisses and he's on his way...and i head over to a 1:00 meeting with a client.
i'm working with a local school on a 50th anniversary painting. we went through all sorts of old photos and newspaper clippings for inspiration.
(pay no attention to that thumb...i'm not ready to talk about it. haha.
suffice it to say...i have toe thumbs. hmph!)
2:30...i have an hour to kill before max is done with school. i go to a coffee shop to mull over everything from my meeting and start sketching out ideas.
by 4:00 we're all reunited!
max got a blue ribbon in math, matt got some more work done on the tattoo on his hand, and i came home to dishes and laundry and my blog.

not too shabby, this tuesday!

a random sunday in pictures

this past week has been a swirl and blur and mess of painting and painting and a little bit more painting.
matt and i finally got our tiny collective business off the ground with a small showing of our collaborative art this past weekend. it has literally been a collaboration. he touches the canvas..then me...then him...then me.
i'm a "last minute" kind of lady, so a lot of our pieces were finished just a few days ago. i don't make myself feel bad for it anymore...something i know about me is that i work well under pressure. especially self-imposed pressure. haha
i'll have some pictures to show soon.
today has been a sweet and sunny sunday..spent mostly to myself..missing my max and twiddling my weird thumbs waiting until i can scoop him up from his guy weekend so we can hold hands and gab and dish a little bit. a groundhog was roaming around our building and hiding under our parked cars yesterday, leaving me and matt trapped inside and terrified for our ankles, and i can't wait to tell max about it.
what i wore today- vintage blouse and coat/tracy feith for target skirt and target belt/simply vera tights/bocage booties from norway
and here's a humbling parting story.
i treated myself to some terrible fast food today...and the drive thru boy told they consider me a regular there and they know my voice when i'm ordering. it was a low point in my life. haha. and i suppose i've "treated" myself more then i thought i had.
no wonder my tracy feith skirt doesn't want to button.

p.s. most of you know matt is an amazing tattoo artist. talent for days!
he has a little video interview/feature up on the so tattooed website. go see go see!
happy sunday, my loves!

sunday afternoon

matt and i spent yesterday afternoon hiding out in the movie theater.
it seemed like a sunday afternoon kind of thing to do. we arm wrestled over seeing the woody allen movie or the clint eastwood movie. i let matt win and we settled with clint because only the big theaters carry matt's soft pretzels...and i got to see the large lobby cutout for harry potter. eeep!
and because i've gotten a few requests to do this...this is what matt and i wore:
him- thrifted tweed jacket and flannel shirt/UO tweed pants/gifted antler belt buckle/green high tops from zara london
her- tucker for target dress/men's glasses from UO /american apparel tights/f 21 boots
more sunday movies please!
and oh, hello, november...
