refreshing

ack! i'm so sorry for the bits of silence yesterday and today.
it's been the busiest days around here. the kinds where i'm reminded of truths about myself that always seem to be the most forgetful kinds of truths. the ones that i need a refresher course on from time to time. like how i can't do it all. or at least, i can't do it all the way i'd like for it to be done. and sometimes, priorities need to be adjusted. it's hard to remember that the perfect mama, homemaker, career gal/blogger, daughter, sister, friend doesn't exist. i can be the coolest mama and still be the worst/ messiest/ most disorganized housekeeper in the world (which i totally am)...have a schedule full of projects and clients and still forget to call home to my parents for days on end.
the important trick is learning how to laugh off  "dropped pins" just as much as learning how to juggle them. to surround yourself with understanding folks that know your heart. to pick up slack by letting go of other ends.
it's also learning to see when your greatest strengths overextended become your greatest weakness (something matt has taught me)
so yesterday was spent recharging and refocusing..
and it was spent cleaning the kitchen.
and even though i'll most likely always be a little frazzled and messy and disorganized, i was reminded of another truth about myself: scrubbing cabinets can be therapy. and sometimes a clean house can make you feel like the coolest mama in the world.

  3. A clean house - especially one with hydrangeas - absolutely always makes me feel like an awesome mom and wife. I'm glad you got to recharge!

  4. i know exactly how you feel. with my boy starting kindergarten, i'm sort of daunted by the thought of having yet another thing to juggle--and we don't even really have that much, on purpose! but still, it feels like a lot.
your home looks so beautiful, by the way. :)

  10. Man did I need that note today! Also... where are your open shelves from? We are tearing out our kitchen and I plan to put in open shelves and I haven't been able to find any that will bear enough weight!

  13. beatiful clean white pictures. i love a white kitchen and i love a clean house. just wish mine was clean all the time :)

i understand the struggle of balancing every role in our lives and wanted to do each job with perfection. perhaps that's part of motherhood....finding the balance.

  14. As always Lovely pictures... You are so right saying that a clean house can make you feel like the coolest Mama in the world! Maybe that is the reason I clean my home so much, my girls always pick on me though, they say that is all I do, but hey It makes everything better to me having a clean and smelling good home to relax in.... Loving your whites in your kitchen, my style for sure!!!! Beautiful!!!!

  16. Even though I'm reminded constantly that I can't do it all either the best moments happen when I actually accept that.

  17. you know, no one can do it all. No one's perfect or a superwoman. But there's more important things in life than always being the best at X thing, you know?

also, I adore that yellow couch.

  19. Oh that last part is a bit of truth right there. I'm a cleaner at heart. Wish I could come clean with you! Hehe And, even more so, wish I had the time to blog my little life more often. Alas, it sometimes takes a backseat to my mama, wife, student life.
Anyway, you are gorgeous and I miss you.

  20. thank you all so much! it definitely is a balance. and my weakness is certainly making time for a tidy house. but thinking about matt's strengths and weakness quote...maybe my greatest weakness can become my greatest strength when overcome every now and again?

p.s. kacie! the shelves are from ikea. we added white brackets underneath for extra weight support. they work wonderfully!
