through my son's eyes

i was cleaning out my office yesterday and found this note max made me a few months ago.

"you are beautiful"

i needed to be reminded of that.
and for it to come as seen through my little boy is a treasure the size of the moon or more.
he's good as gold to me.

valentwine

as january is packing up and saying its goodbye, we've been digging through the valentine box to greet february with.
i'm not one to make a big fuss over valentines day in the traditional sense...i'm not a red rose and chocolate kind of girl.
but the colors and hearts the handmade cards and sweets i adore.

happy happy weekend, everyone!
here's a little song to get us into the spirit...

colour my world

max's art studio is up and running...with the hopes that now that he has his own organized space, all of me and matt's art supplies won't go missing anymore.
printer paper won't be abducted from its home. and the jar by my desk will have more than a few empty mechanical pencils in it.
max has sticky art fingers.
i put 3 of the lack side tables together (the yellow version was on clearance) to make a drawing surface. it works pretty well, especially for when he's working with his large roll of paper. and like me, max likes to color and paint on his knees..close to the floor (i'm a indian-style painter..haha). the side tables are just the right height.
matt and i found some vintage metal baskets to tuck underneath and filled them with pounds and pounds of paper. i give it a couple weeks before they're empty.
we're planning on doing some paper making around here soon. i think max would find it interesting. i would love any and all advice on the matter from all you paper makers out there!
i found this laundry hanger at ikea and thought it looked like a pretty little chandelier. it was a must...and the clips are perfect for drying messy masterpieces.
form and function for just a few dollars!
(it would make a funny nursery mobile too, no?)
my inner 6 year old wants to hide away up there.
i can't wait to see what my little guy gets himself into.
hopefully something messy and odd and wonderful!

miss saigon

saturday night was spent with friends and little ones at the best little vietnamese place in dayton.
we were out celebrating the triumphant return of our friends beth and andy from their honeymoon over curried meats and warm soups and coconut soda.
little saigon is a pretty good hide out...the tiniest building painted teal with pink flowers. swoon.
i love a good night out...with real swell food and even better company.
happy monday, loves!

winter must be cold for those with no warm memories.

we spent the entire day out sledding yesterday.
we started out on a smaller hill at matt's mama's house..then took a hot chocolate/lunch break and made our way to a large and steep hill that matt used to go to as a child. the snow was fluffy as can be and our faces were covered in its spray. it was beautiful. and cold. luckily there was a fire going.
we came home with numb toes and content hearts and a cracked rib (matt)...but the warmest of new memories together.
hoping for a warm and happy weekend for you all.

have a cuppa tea

...weeknights out for no good reason...tucked away sipping warm drinks downtown...
these are my favorite kinds of nights out...spent arm in arm with my favorite guys.

big bunch of turkeys

max took us on a bowling date last night.
his dates always always involve bowling (see here and here ). he's slick like that.
and while i'm the absolute worst at bowling (hello high score of 67!), i can at least admire the shoes and the way max literally throws the bowling ball across multiple lanes.
it gets me every time.
as does he.

birthday buffet

somehow i managed to monopolize my loved ones entire weekend with my birthday nonsense this weekend.
i guess that's what they get for befriending a sickly gal like myself.
my friends and family were sweet enough to give celebrating another go with me now that i'm back to my old tricks and feeling 100%.
saturday night, matt and friends threw me a lavish hoity-toity bash at the golden corral buffet..complete with liquid cheese dispensers, plastic bibs, and bottomless bowls of ice cream with sprinkles. we traveled 'round the world...stopping in mexico for the taco bar...asia for rice and spring rolls...and topped the whole thing off with slabs of meat and yeast rolls.
only a buffet can bring such wonder...
we shamelessly wore party hats while buffeting and somehow managed to get the waitresses to sing the snappy restaurant birthday song to me twice. my face got all red and hot, which you can imagine is hard to do to a girl that would wear a party hat at a buffet.
we went back to our place after to dance and do ridiculous things people in their late 20's and 30's shouldn't be doing. but i'll tell you, i've known no greater joy than seeing grown men dive on the floor for pinata treats.
it was a fabulous party. it's been a fabulous birthday week.
a girl could get used to this kind of treatment.
which is exactly why i'm ready to pack up and move on to the sidelines for a spell.
enough about me already!
