springtime detox bath

happy happy springtime, friends! it couldn't be colder here in ohio but the sunshine is falling right in line with the season. time to dust off the picnic basket and finally drag the christmas tree to the wood pile! (it's still laying on the back porch exactly where i threw it out almost 3 months ago..haha. ack!)

i'm still a bit under the weather but am singing the praises of a few small remedies...orange juice with a splash of ginger ale and 40 minutes alone before bed for a bath detox. hot water for soaking, sea salt and epsom salt, ground ginger, baking soda, and some essential oils all stirred together in the tub help to pull out toxins...and at the very least, help to unwind and relax a bit.

i've tried it a couple of times this week following instructions from an article here.

it's definitely a new favorite...and you can make up a jar to keep in the bathroom for a rainy, sneezy day. (which we have lots of around here...)

any other cold remedies to send my way?

  1. I make a similar concoction with 1/2 Epsom Salt 1/2 Dead Sea Salt, a little baking soda and a few drops of Eucalyptus oil and that makes me feel much fresher too. Will definitely give this a whirl though - I adore the scent of ginger!

  8. That bath sounds heavenly. I'm feeling under the weather this week too; my favorite cold soother is a mug of warm water + juice of 1/4 lemon + teaspoon of honey. Feels great on my throat and warms my bones.

  9. I will definitely be trying this - thanks for posting! It's even chilly here in Georgia leaving us all desperate for some warmth and sunshine. Only rainy days ahead according to the forecast. Will be in need of this soon :)

  14. I don't know if it helps with colds, but it helps cut inflammation and reduce bloating (as well as helps with digestion stoppage)!

  15. Hi Katie. Sorry to hear you're not feeling 100%. This bath remedy sounds great. We are big fans of Epson salt baths but hadn't thought to put ground ginger in before.

I discovered a little thing that helped last time I had a cold, which required the using of much tissue on my nose. To sooth the skin around my nose I used my Burt's Bees peppermint lip balm. It felt so nice and cooling, and smelled good too. I imagine any bees' wax balm would be soothing but the one with the peppermint extract felt extra nice.

  16. Oh wow- I need this! The tub is my favorite escape and you've found a way to make it sound even better (now if only my hot water heater were better and I could bathe in more than a thimble full of water).

  20. Don't know if you've heard of this before but I've tried it and it works!! My son used to have a condition called "bronchospasms" where he would get a terrible hacking cough that would go on for hours. First, one remedy to stop the cough is to open the freezer door and have them take deep breaths of the cold air. Another remedy that we tried when the freezer failed is to slather his feet with Vick's vaporub and put socks on. Within minutes the cough got better and many times it would stop it almost completely so he could get a decent night's rest. Of course these are coughing, not cold remedies, but it's good to know in case you have a case of the hacks!
