indian summer slumber

a sleepy afternoon house, warm from the sun outside.
there is something pretty romantic about the indian summer we're having this week...heat and bare trees. naked branches. naked baby. dirty son.

these moments are for tiptoeing around and breathing easy...being ever so grateful for the last touches of warmth for the year. toes to earth and sun to cheeks.

thursday bits

today we celebrated a bit of indian summer...driving around country roads looking for front porch pumpkins and mums with the air conditioner on...watching little bare-toed boys put on an after-school puppet show...squealing over sis's new found ability to roll over or stick her whole fist in her mouth.

there are leaves to be pressed, apples to be crunched, and 2 little bobbins of mine whose cheeks need pinched and smooched without a care.

these are the best kinds of days...

hide away

we're celebrating these new-found fall-feeling nights with sweaters and blankets and bare toes out back...hiding away in the teepee that matt and a friend built for us sunday night and listening to max spin the wildest tales about yetis and having a crush on the maid from the movie clue.

i'm pretty sure that our backyard neighbor might think we're a bit crazy...

p.s. thank you guys so much for the thoughtful comments on the vaccine issue. it helped so so much! i know it can be a sticky subject, but i have to say how proud i am of the kindness and consideration and room that was given by everyone to be able to share their thoughts without bringing on judgement. i'm truly thankful for this little village of ours that we share.

i ordered dr. sears' book today and am really excited to delve into it....especially on the alternative vaccine schedule. our biggest fear with the vaccinations has been the amount given at one time at such an early age. it's such a comfort to know we can set a shot schedule that we feel comfortable with!
i'm also super curious about the homeopathic vaccines as well...so thank you again for broadening my understanding and options with all of this!

truly, it has meant so much...

now, to follow phoebe and max off to bed...goodnight, goodnight friends!

sweet corn ice cream

i love september and its mix and mash of seasons...summer heat and fall air...school by day and sprinklers and bike rides til night.
the farmers market down the road is selling off last bits of their ohio sweet corn...it's the perfect time to make some ice cream!

i used this recipe for sweet corn ice cream here, blending the kernels in the blender to have less chunks and adding a bit more vanilla!
it really is delicious, especially if you toss in some blackberries too...the perfect end of summer treat!
