grand illumination

going downtown to see the christmas tree lighting has been a little tradition for my sister amy and i for years. and there are such good memories attached. in fact she even met her husband nate for the first time there.
its really a wonderful thing...carnival rides and hot chocolate and a parade with drum lines and tiny shriner cars and santa. if you can manage the cold, there is no finer place to be.
in true katie style i got sick on the spinning pumpkins and convinced myself we all might die from the chill. but they handed out 3-D glasses and every street light and carnival bulb looked like a snowflake...we met a professional santa in wire rim glasses...and matt and max and i created a brand new christmas tradition of our own.
afterward we snuck to dinner at the spaghetti warehouse and had the trolley car inside the restaurant all to ourselves to get stuffed and warmed up on bread and pasta.
amy and i got scornful glances from the servers for renacting the trolley scene from meet me in st louis during dinner.
i guess christmas kick offs can bring the judy garland out in a girl.
