county fair

spending time at the county fair is the best way to start saying goodbye to the summer...it's the perfect mix of warm weather colors and air with a hearty mix of corn stalks and pumpkins wearing ribbons, pies and quilts set out for show...bits and pieces that all remind me of fall.
it's been a tradition of ours to take max to the fair right before school starts to get dusty and dirty and come home with all sorts of silly prizes and a sweet sticky face. and it was a hoot having phoebe along for the ride this year...plus 4 goldfish (2 max named joey) that managed to make it home with us...

tomorrow is our very last day of summer break.
we've got big plans to send it off in style...or at the very least break out the noise makers and get the school year started off right..

  1. This makes me so homesick. We missed our county fair where we grew up because we moved and I haven't heard of any up here. I'll have to look harder next year. That baby wrap looks awesome. I have a moby wrap, but my 7 week old likes to hang his head back and bob around. The moby doesn't really keep his head close to me which means I can't have both hands free. Keep taking these lovely pics because they definitely inspire me =)

  2. My husband's name is Joey. Not Joe, not Joseph but Joey. (I check his birth certificate) and his beard is just as impressive as Matt's (Do people stop him all the time and ask about it?) So I approve of naming not one but two fish Joey!

  3. Gorgeous, Katie. I grew up going to the fair at the end of every summer, and jonesing for it the rest of the year. Your photos really capture the essence of every county fair (and make it look so clean!). I'm ravenously curious how Max chose the two that would be named Joey... :)

  21. I love love love these pictures. I live in Belgium and people always get me jealous with those great county fairs, they're so dull and ugly over here in Belgium. This one again looks beautiful! :D
