traditions

continuing traditions is one of the things i look forward to most this time of year.
my favorite is sneaking out with my sisters and mom for our annual first bit of christmas shopping. we've managed to keep this tradition for years now...meeting in tipp city for the town's winter gathering, where all of the shops open up all wrapped and decorated for christmas. there are carolers and santa (this year's santa had the most amazing barrel-curled bangs. ack!) and a horse-drawn carriage.

every year i end up coming home with new christmas bits for the house...and every year i can't resist putting just a few up. after all, it would be silly to box them up for a week or two, right? right!

oh, how i love the holidays!
i can hardly believe thanksgiving is next week.
this is a good thing though, because christmas shopping with my girls did nothing to satisfy my decorating itch.

p.s. we (read: i) couldn't help ourselves.
max and i definitely cheated and started decorating anyways....

i hope your weekend was a happy one!

candy apples and gum

trick and treats was especially lovely and spooky last night!
matt and i power-walked around town trying to keep up with our ninja and his candy-filled pillowcase. he was a man on a mission!
we were going to bring mimi along...but i think i depressed her by putting her in a banana costume. she stayed home to sulk.

anyways, it was the perfect night to be out and about.
chilly air and leaves crunching under foot...hot apple cider and frequent stops to sneak into the candy bag.
we're left this morning with bits of costume strewn all around the house and a huge bowl full of candy hidden on top of the refrigerator. i may or may not have already sneaked a few pieces for breakfast.
here's hoping all of you had a wonderful halloween!

cranks and ballists

we took in some vintage base ball yesterday in the park...allowing my inner historian-geek to run rampant and give me further evidence that i was born in the wrong era. i squealed every time i heard "well played gentlemen".."fine game, sir"...or "huzzah!". HUZZAH!
these are my kind of men...
we all sat under a shade tree, drinking bottled cokes and figuring out how matt could join the team next year with his decidedly unvintagey hair and tattoos. the conclusion was that he would have to form his own circus troupe vintage team of gentlemen rabble-rousers and castaways.
that or cut his hair....which would be quite a story if he chopped it all off to join a vintage baseball team.
regardless, i'm going to start making pennants.
i wish all sundays could be spent like this...
happy monday, loves!
